Whew.....What A Week!

Well the first week of kindergarten has been touch and go. Some days were good and some days were just so-so.

I’m hoping it’s just because of the change in routine and environment and once he’s settled in everything will be fine. Elementary school offers a lot more freedom than he’s used to and it’s pretty overwhelming and intimidating. We’re going to test it out but if it proves to be more than he can handle then I’m considering one more year of preschool. But Jordan is excited about school and is trying very hard! His teacher and I are working together to make this the best experience possible for everyone.

My dilemma is should he stay or should he go and because he makes the cut-off the decision is solely up to me! I don't want to place him in a situation that he's really not ready for and the outcome is that he ends up hating school or he's labeled as a problem child because he's being disruptive. If he does need another year of preschool and I move him, I don't want him to feel as if he's being punished. However, I don’t want him to get it in his head that whenever things get tough he can run away fro it, instead of working it out. Not often, do I say this, but situations like these make me wish that I wasn’t a single parent. What I wouldn’t give to be able to make this decision with someone who has just as much invested in Jordan as I do. Someone who I know is trying to achieve the same goals for his future…..Anyway enough of that….

Let me just say Jordan’s teacher is awesome and I just LOVE her! She’s, admittedly, as neurotic and addicted to e-mail as I am and has been great about e-mailing me and keeping me updated on his progress! Her daughter is one day older than Jordan and also started kindergarten this year…so she totally understands where I’m coming from.

Here are some highlights from the week:

Tuesday, Jordan had his first trip to the nurse’s office. He walked into cabinet and got a little cut under his eye and some bruising. He went to the nurse’s office and got some ice and a note. Later that day he bumped his head on the cubby getting his back pack out.

Tuesday he received an award for being a good worker and Sticker for his effort.

Wednesday, Jordan received an award for being a good friend.

Thursday Jordan was so exhausted that he slept from the time I picked him up from after school care up until Friday morning! This week has worn him out!
